I almost missed pi day last week. March 14 is the day you get to eat pie for lunch since the date corresponds to the ratio of any circle's circumference to its diameter. It's unnatural that such a long and awkward number is attached to something as common and simple as the circle. I sometimes still think that someone messed up when they worked out the math on pi, and the real number is something much simpler, like 3. Almost as confusing is how to successfully cook a chicken pot pie without wasting two hours. The microwave leaves the bottom frozen and the middle hotter than molten rock, and the stove takes so long that you need to begin cooking the thing hours before you even know you'll be hungry.
